Here is your chance to sit down with Bernie and write!

Each of Bernie’s poems is paired with the space for you to express your feelings and thoughts
— providing an opportunity for healing and growth … and to laugh a little with Bernie!

How To Use These Books

Before you go to bed; in the middle of the night, when you can’t sleep; or in the morning, fresh from dreams…… Bernie is up ahead of you. The light is on at his writing desk. Maybe, amazingly, he’s been mulling over the very same thing you’ve been thinking about.

Or, if your heart hurts, you feel all locked up inside, and don’t know what to think, sit down with Bernie and let him talk to you a while. He will stop and be with you, waiting patiently and listening. Listening with love free of criticism and advice. Eventually you will even laugh a little together …… the healing and rebirthing will feel so good.

The True Avatars of Healing

“Please, whomever you are, no matter how broken or hurt or jaded,
read these words that follow, and let them lead you to someone furry.
Someone feathery or slithery. Let them lead you to the true avatars of
healing, who work their art with a look, a shiver, a purr, a cluck,
a breeze, a nostril flaring. Kiss a toad, stroke an elm, and let the healing begin.”
— foreword to Animals & Nature by Susan Chernak McElroy

What Would Lassie Do?

“The next time you don’t know what to do,
ask yourself WWLD: ‘What would Lassie do?’
Animals help us create healing relationships,
and teach us to live in the moment. WWLD?
‘Let’s not waste our life time. Lets go out and play!'” — preface to Animals & Nature

Divorce

Tomatoes don’t belong in the refrigerator;
I did it again.
My wife may never forgive me;
our marriage is on the rocks.
I snore, put tomatoes in the fridge,
walk and eat too fast.
The divorce lawyer doesn’t know how
to help us reach a valid settlement for my cruelty.
He suggests we try to work it out,
give love a chance,
and don’t put tomatoes in the fridge.
I read his settlement to my wife;
she laughs.
I love her when she laughs,
and forget the difficult times.
We fire the lawyer
and take the tomatoes out of the fridge.
