About the Author
elizabeth anne verink is also known as Elizabeth Wells. Born in Springfield,
Missouri, Elizabeth resides on the north shore of Lake Travis in the hill
country of central Texas. Her first book of poetry and photographs,
Pump Jack Poems, was published in 2008. It depicts the whimsical
artwork adorning the oil wells that dot the countryside of Luling, Texas.
She leads hikes, presents and writes children’s programs at the Balcones
Canyonlands Wildlife Refuge, and surveys amphibians and fresh water mussels
for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department.
Elizabeth shares her home with a growing number of rescued animals and has
traveled Africa’s Okavango Delta, explored the beaches of the Galapagos Islands,
and journeyed by camel across the sand dunes of Morocco. Glimpses of these
journeys can be found in many of her poems.
